Whether you are working from home or just have a distributed team, here is a quick list to improve your remote work communication.
- For larger meetings, set agendas and assign someone to be the facilitator.
- Be willing to let another person speak first and trust that you’ll get your turn.
- Invite fewer people to your meetings. Remote meetings often get less effective the more people you add.
- Understand the different types of communication you have available to you and know when it is appropriate to use each one.
- Schedule time for laundry :). Don’t multitask; give your full attention to the people you are communicating with.
- Use video. Some people don’t like this, but it really is much easier to communicate when you can see the person.
